Use Hostgator Web Hosting and Fantastico To Install Word Press From C-Panel

Author: Alan Huxton

Hostgator and Fantastico go so well together that they lend themselves to all sorts of timeless comparisons: Burns and Allen, Astaire and Rogers, Peanut Butter and Jelly or, more relevantly, MySQL and PHP. Hostgator is the web host, Fantastico is the feature; together, they can help you make your website do all sorts of incredible things.

Fantastico (full name: Fantastico DeLuxe) is the leading auto-installer for servers using the cPanel control panel. Hostgator uses the cPanel control panel and therefore Hostgator servers support the Fantastico auto-installer. With Fantastico, you can install scripts onto your Hostgator website even if you're a total novice -- no setting up of a MySQL database necessary, and no downloading files or changing permissions.

By logging in to your Hostgator cPanel and clicking on the big blue smiley-face Fantastico icon (no kidding), you will be able to instantly install any number of useful scripts onto your website by simply clicking on the script, and then clicking Install.

With Fantastico, you can install multiple instances of scripts in add-on domains, sub-domains, and top-level directories of your Hostgator-hosted website.

When logged in to your Hostgator cPanel, with the Fantastico window opened you can also learn in an instant whenever an update has been released for a script you have installed onto your website.

What do we mean by scripts? Scripts enable you to add functionality, versatility, and interactivity to your Hostgator-hosted websites, right down to your Customer Support Services. Some of the most common and popular Fantastico scripts include:

- Blogs (b2evolution, Nucleus, PMachine Free, WordPress)

- Customer Support (Crafty Syntax Live Help, Help Center Live, osTicket, PHP Support Tickets, Support Logic Helpdesk, Support Services Manager)

- Discussion boards (phpBB2, SMF)

- eCommerce (CubeCart, OS Commerce, Zen Cart)

- FAQs (FAQMasterFlex)

- Image Galleries (4Images Gallery, Coppermine Photo Gallery, Gallery 2.0)

- Mailing Lists (PHPlist)

- Portals/CMA (Drupal, Geeklog, Joomla, Mambo Open Source, PHP-Nuke, phpWCMS, phpWebSite, Post-Nuke, Siteframe, Typo3, Xoops)

- Project Management (dotProject, PHProjekt)

- Site Builders (Templates Express)

- Surveys/Polls (Advanced Poll, phpESP, PHPSurveyor), Wiki (PhpWiki, TikiWiki)

- Miscellaneous (Dew-NewPHPLinks, Moodle, Noah's Classifieds, Open-Realty, PhpAdsNew, PHPauction, phpCOIN, phpFormGenerator, WebCalendar)

It is important to keep in mind that while Hostgator supports Fantastico, and even has a sizable section on Fantastico in the Hostgator knowledgebase, Hostgator does not offer support for the individual scripts available using Fantastico. Therefore, once you install the scripts onto your Hostgator account, you should make note of the official website associated with each script you're using so you can refer to it for specific script-related questions, issues, and tips.

    - You chose to install in the main directory of the domain ********.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain
(path=”/home/********/public_html/”).You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
    images

I have no clue what this means or even how to do what it is saying to do, geeze im getting so frustrated im ready to give up please please help me :(

FTP into your web server open the /public_html/ folder and delete the “images” folder. make sure you don’t have something of your own in there.

If you don’t know what this means, you should find a friend who is good with web hosting to help you, or hire someone to make your website.

otherwise you may need to spend some time reading up on how a web server works. It will be pretty much the same no matter which host you choose.

    WordPress folks…please help!!!?
I have created a wordpress site through hostgator and fantastico with them. It did most of the leg work for me which was great. I didnt have to use ftp because hostgator will extract the files for you from the zip….Now here is the problem, I want to give the site to someone else but keep the files. They dontmind keeping the domain but will change it if necessary. i want to keep the files as somewhat of a blueprint but allow them to upload the sites files or I will do it for them that doesnt matter. So basically I have a few thins I needananswer or clarification on….
!. How doI get a copy of the finalized website files with my additions that were developed on wordpress.org hosted by hostgator?
    2. How do I set her up with the site but keep the finalized files? and is an ftp needed or capable of doing this now that the site is already created?
    3. How can I simplify the situation in the future because I plan on doing this more often, am I better off being a reseller? and if so, do the same guidelinas apply? I know this is a lengthy question and if you only have part of the answer that would be great also.

1&2 there are wordpress plugins that help move and/or copy content to and from blogs. Also if you hit Manage and then export you can export all the post and setting!

#3 I can provide you with better hosting, you can give users separate accounts and yes i do have fantastico.

    WordPress Blog Setup?
I followed basic instructions from Fantastico @ HostGator and got my WordPress blog set up. I know how to blog, but am so confused about all the plug ins, how to add affiliate banners and photos, etc. I would love recommendations for someone I could pay to finish this for me, as I need another one done for my new company also. Many thanks in advance.

Hostgator is very good based on my experience. I have been using them for one year and I pay the exact amount every month. I have not yet experience any down time with them. The prices are fantastic and the customer support couldn’t be better. Host gator uses the standard cpanel (you can see the demo at their site).

You are only allowed to install one script on one directory you will need to create another directory.
Create another web directory I dont know which hosting service you are using so I cant really help you.

But here is an example of what you should be doing:

    dami3n.com – Word press

    dami3n.dami3n.com – Drupal

    omg.dami3n.com – Joomlah

as you can see the other 2 have “omg” and “dami3n” directories to stop the collision.
Just add more directories and you should be ok. If you are using a web Admin service for this and not hosting this yourself ask there help desk to assist you.
