Hostgator…has anyone ever used it? I need help.?
I was just looking at the Hostgator reselling program, but am kind of confused as to what I need to do after I sign up. Do I just advertise the service? Do I build websites for my customers? Do I register domain names?

Obviously, I have to build a website of my own to promote this. Do I have to use them? I asked in a chat with a hostgator rep and he said that after I purchase the plan I will be told what to do next. Sounds a bit fishy when put that way.

If anyone can shed some light on what it’s all about I’d appreciate it. Please provide examples when you explain what to do. Thanks.

Once you sign up for a reseller service, you’ll have to setup your own website (own domain name and website) which will be for your reseller services. You can set your prices for your hosting plans (but you’ll get more customers if your pricing is competitive) and tell everyone about your website, basically market or promote it and people will pay you directly. That’s how it works.

Do I have to use them? What did you mean? Did you mean that you had to host your website on their hosting? I am not sure about this, but why wouldn’t you want to? It’s easier that way, I guess. They’ll help you set up a hosting site using a template and you’ll be good to go soon.

You don’t have to build websites for your customers. That is not part of the deal. But if you’d want to do that, you could do it as an extra service. You can register domain names for your customers.

Yahoo! Geocities is probably the best one out if you don’t want to know HTML code. However, HTML is like the DNA of a site, you should familiarize yourself with it. It would be best to learn it so you can make really nice sites. If you completely prefer not to don’t worry you still can make good sites. Depending on how crazy you want of a site may mean it might cost a small sum. Marcomedia Flash is a great tool for website design, and you need to know almost no code at all. However it is very expensive, but you don’t need to know HTML. If you have a tight budget than you can always use a GIF animator, although its more a pain to make graphics with, it works. See links below.
Hope this all helps! Happy Building! 8)

Just created a domain with Hostgator and the server is not found?
I’m trying to find a solution but it’s really difficult and I’m overwhelmed. I signed up for a server and domain with Hostgator and received their follow-up email with my username and password and ways to get into the control panel. I installed wordpress and when I try to visit the admin area of my site (or my site in general), it says “Error: Server Not Found”. I followed all tutorials exactly right, so I’m not sure if this is my problem or Hostgator’s. Please help!

Is your DNS setup for the new server host name? DNS resolves host names to IP addresses, the Server Not Found error means your client cannot resolve the host name you’re using. I’d call Hostgator tech support to see how to setup your DNS for the site.
